1. Overview
Selah ("Selah," "we," "us") is a Christian discipleship app that guides members through an 8-week program of scripture, prayer, daily tasks, and community accountability. This policy explains what information the app collects, why, and the choices you have. It applies to the Selah iOS app and any associated services.
2. Information we collect
We collect the following categories of information:
- Account information — name, email address, and authentication data when you create an account.
- Profile & program data — your assigned track (Brotherhood or Sisterhood), onboarding responses, and your progress through the 8-week program.
- Spiritual content — prayer requests, devotional reflections, and journal entries you choose to record.
- Accountability & check-in data — responses you submit to daily accountability and purity check-ins, visible only as configured within your accountability circle.
- Community content — posts, comments, and messages within Brotherhood/Sisterhood circles and the community feed.
- Crisis & safety check-ins — see Sensitive content below; handled under a stricter, minimal-retention rule.
- Voice data — if you use "Hey Selah," your spoken request is converted to text entirely on your device using on-device speech recognition. The audio itself is never uploaded or sent to our servers — only the resulting text of your command is sent, to carry it out. We do not record, upload, or store your voice.
- Subscription status — your subscription tier and status, provided to us by Apple and by RevenueCat, the subscription-management platform we use to reconcile entitlements across devices. We do not receive your card number.
- Usage & device data — app interactions, crash diagnostics, and device/OS information, collected without message bodies, prayer content, or check-in content attached.
3. How we use it
- To operate the program: track your progress, unlock the next day's content, and coordinate your accountability circle.
- To personalize devotionals, tasks, and program pacing to your track and progress.
- To process and manage your subscription through the App Store.
- To detect, investigate, and respond to safety and crisis situations as described below.
- To maintain, secure, and improve the app, and to diagnose technical issues.
- To communicate with you about your account, the program, or support requests.
Some devotional content and the "Hey Selah" voice assistant are generated with the help of a third-party AI provider — see Sharing & third parties. We do not use your prayer content, journal entries, check-in responses, or crisis data to train any AI model, ours or a provider's, and we do not sell your personal information.
4. Sharing & third parties
We share information only as needed to operate Selah, and we do not sell personal information or share it with advertisers or data brokers:
- Infrastructure providers — our database, authentication, and backend run on Supabase. They process data on our behalf under contract and do not use it for their own purposes.
- AI providers — devotional content and "Hey Selah" responses are generated by sending your request (and the minimum context needed to answer it) to a third-party AI provider under a contract that prohibits using it to train their models. We do not send prayer content, journal entries, check-in responses, or crisis data as part of these requests.
- Apple — App Store purchases and subscription management are handled by Apple under Apple's own privacy terms.
- RevenueCat — we use RevenueCat to manage and verify subscription entitlements across devices; it receives your subscription status, not your payment details.
- Sentry — crash and error reports are sent to Sentry to help us fix bugs. These reports are scrubbed before sending and never include message bodies, prayer content, journal entries, or check-in responses.
- Your accountability circle — content you post to a Brotherhood/Sisterhood circle or the community feed is visible to other members of that circle, as the feature is designed.
- Legal & safety — we may disclose information where required by law, or where necessary to protect someone's safety in a genuine crisis.
5. Special category data
Some of what Selah collects falls into legally "special" categories that get extra protection under laws like the GDPR: religious belief (prayer requests, journal entries, program content), and information concerning sex life (the purity/accountability check-in feature). We only collect this because you choose to enter it as part of using a specific feature — that choice is our legal basis for processing it, and you can stop at any time by not using the feature, deleting the entries in-app where supported, or deleting your account.
6. Sensitive content: crisis, purity & accountability data
Crisis check-ins, purity/accountability check-ins, and prayer content are treated as sensitive. We do not include this content in logs, crash reports, analytics events, or prompts sent to AI providers. We keep crisis check-in data only for as long as needed to support your safety and to operate the feature responsibly, and we delete or fully anonymize it once that need has passed.
7. Retention & deletion
We keep your information for as long as your account is active and as needed to provide the program. Deleting your account (see Delete Your Account) removes your data from our live database immediately — it is not a scheduled job that runs later. A copy may persist briefly in encrypted infrastructure backups, which are purged on a rolling cycle and fully cleared within 30 days, and we retain a limited record where legally required for tax or fraud-prevention purposes.
8. Your rights & choices
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export, or delete your personal information, and to object to or restrict certain processing. You can exercise most of these directly in the app under Settings, or by contacting us at the address below.
9. Children's privacy
Selah is not directed to children. Pending owner confirmation — our recommendation is 17, given the purity/accountability features; the app does not yet enforce an age gate at signup, so this is a policy commitment ahead of that being built. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under our stated minimum age. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
10. Security
We use industry-standard safeguards, including row-level access controls that restrict every user's data to that user's own account, to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the app evolves. We'll update the "Last updated" date above and, for material changes, provide notice in the app.
